Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) is a wholly owned subsidiary of PG&E Corporation and maintains its headquarters in San Francisco, California. There are 21,500 employees who carry out PG&E's primary business—the transmission and delivery of energy. The company provides natural gas and electric service to approximately 12 million people in Northern and Central California, or about one in every 20 Americans. Our service area covers 70,000 square miles. PG&E and other utilities in the state are regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission. The CPUC was created by the state legislature in 1911.
