Retired Public Employees' Association is an organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing retirement benefits for retired government workers in California. It has a membership of approximately 40,000 persons who receive pensions from the Public Employment Retirement System (PERS). While some organizations of active workers include retirees among their members, RPEA is the only organization whose total membership is made up of retired persons. It is also the only organization which includes among its members employees retired from state government, retired classified school employees, and retirees from local governments including counties, cities, and special districts who have contracted with PERS to administer their pension funds. The membership of RPEA draws in approximately equal parts from all three of these groups.
